How The “Black Panther” Soundtrack Came To Be Completely Produced byKendrick Lamar

Black Panther took home a Grammy last night. The Kendrick Lamar- produced album inspired by the hit Marvel movie “Black Panther” was a big hit last year over the airways and on streaming services around the time the movie hit theaters. It added to the hype of the film but Kendrick was only supposed to do one song.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the score composer Ludwig Göransson and his team traveled to the International Library of African Music in South Africa. There they worked with over 500 instruments that according to Göransson “Don’t really exist anymore”

Only one song on the album scored a Grammy that was “Kings Dead” by Jay Rock, Future, and James Black.

The music supervisor for “Black Panther” Dave Jordan revealed that the chemistry between director Ryan and Kendrick was so strong they knew it was a perfect fit.

“We had one meeting with Kendrick and we knew in that meeting that he understood what we were trying to do,” Jordan said. “Kendrick and Ryan Coogler were having a completely different connection than you would normally get in those kinds of meetings. They understood each other on a different level.”
